Geumhoji Lake

Geumhoji photo

Geumhoji, located at 1102-1 Yongah-ri, Geumsan-myeon, is a large reservoir that is 204,937m². It has a very interesting legend.

Once upon a time, a yellow dragon and a blue (or black) dragon were fiercely fighting. One warrior who saw this shouted "Stop fighting", and the blue dragon looked down in surprise. Meanwhile, the yellow dragon stabbed the blue dragon's neck and the blue dragon fell down to the ground striking the ground to make the big pond there.

This is Geumhoji of today, with the blue water resembling the blue dragon. Also, there is one more legend that the king of the underworld will ask you when you die, "Have you ever been to Geumhoji?' and if you say 'No', he will send you to hell because you are lazy.

The circumference of Geumhoji is 5km, and there are many curves so it is difficult to see the whole lake with a single look. There is no information on when it was formed, too, but it is estimated to have formed naturally in the Silla Dynasty. The lake is surrounded by a thick pine forest making a beautiful scenery. It is also famous as a fishing place with abundant fish resources.
